How to explain actuarial exams to someone else

Tell them you're taking a graduate-level course and:

1. There is no teacher.
2. You never have class.
3. Your classmates are some of the top analytical minds in the world.
4. There is only one exam.
5. 60% of the class will fail.
6. The class is only offered once a year.
7. Repeat that very same process 10 times.
8. Oh, and you're competing against the top 40% from the previous class.

Most people get that. And then they shut up.

Movies VS Politicians

I was shocked this morning to see the news where Mahathir relates 911 attacks with James Cameron. He just reminded me of my hatred for silly politicians.

In my last Law and Econ class, my professor adressed a very good point in class, "As an economist, our job is the figure out the most efficient way in carrying out a policy, but fairness and other factors are being taken into consideration by the legislators and politicians, and hence the decisions are not always efficient"

When he mentioned about "other factors", I also see two words: corruption and stupidness.

If a politician is so smart enough to be able to judge a country from a movie, I think he must have no problem to differentiate fantasy and reality.

I just feel bad for James Cameron that his piece of artwork that took so many years to finish are being judged as a tool that can be used to take down his country. I know James Cameron don't give a damn, and he would be laughing to ask if the maniac who said this are retarded or having some psych problems...

It is just another joke of the day, from one of the highly honored person with the title "Tun" in the country. If all the "Tun"s have such smart brains, the "Datuk"s and all the good friends that are leading us to decide on the policies must be bringing us to Holland(Cantonese), Hurray! Malaysia Boleh!

In response to refute Mahathir's comment, I posted a link of the making of Avatar here:

Time is never enough

I am kind of speechless after seeing this product, but I have to agree with the fact that as the world is changing rapidly, time is never enough, and this trend of invention is definitely the future of the consumer products.

A journal to keep

Today, I made a decision, and learn another lesson, being a non-perfect human being

I never regret decisions I make, because all consequences are considered before it is done. I understand myself very well, and what I am capable of. But I have not getting to the point to fully utilize all my capabilities up until today in this campus. I understand it is not my fault, because I have done what I could. All success are built upon failures. I tried really hard to teach, to communicate with people that do not understand professionalism, who even think that emails are the worst way to communicate in the world.

Okay, when I wrote up until the last paragraph, I feel like I am wasting my time talking about those trash. It is not even worth at all for me to mention about coward that cannot handle his own club and let his mum to call me to talk. Dude, this is college, not your home.

My parents are not rich enough to leave me with any fortune. I had been looked down because of color and the old stinky car that my dad drove me to school. When I was a kid, this one guy even spitted on me just because he was rich and I am poor. But such discrimination never haunt me. In fact, I became stronger and wiser, and ended up where I dreamed to be... to study in America. I am not jealous with people that can buy 2 brand new BMWs for their sons, because I understand that the ultimate fortune is the wisdom in yourself.
